What do I need to know about the Forestburg Camping trip? What do I need to bring?

Forestburg is the best camping trip (according to the Scouts and Leaders) of the year. It is a winter trip, so dress warmly, in layers. We sleep in cabins, on cots. A winter sleeping bag is needed, to sleep comfortably. In the past, we have Rapeled, Shot Rifles, Hiked, Played Hockey on the FROZEN lake, visted the FROZEN watefalls, taught new Scouts Fire and  Knife & Axe requirements, and much more. The unsurpassed event is the Saturday Night Campfire. It is one that should not be missed.

Where can I find directions to some of the Camp sites and places we go?

As far as the places we go to most often, the directions should already be on the Downloads page. It will contain  links to the sites website for directions, maps, etc or downloadable directions and maps (when available). Directions that are not on our website already will be posted atleast 2 weeks before the event. As always, please confirm all information.

When are we required to were our Uniforms for Camping Trips and Events?

Uniforms are generally not needed on most camping trips, EXCEPT for a trip involving a Historic Hike and and some council sponsored events. When Uniforms are required, It should be Troop 137’s Class A. Please note this is subject to change, so please listen to the announcements at the Tues meetings..When in doubt, ask your PL or SPL .

When is the Permission Slip, Transportation Money and/or Food Money Due for Camping Trips?

As soon as you can bring it is would be great. The absolute deadline is the Tuesday before the Camping Trip. Permission Slips and Transportation money goes to the Leader in charge of collecting it for that event (Usually Mr Sullivan) and the Food money goes to your Patrol Leader or the person who is purchasing food for that trip.. We need to plan on Leadership, Equipment, Food, etc. Waiting until we are leaving will not be acceptable..

What do I need when I go Camping?

Camping equipment varies but here are a few “ Must Haves” and should be brought to each camping trip. A compete list is available at the meetings. RAIN GEAR (PONCHO), BACKPACK, BOOTS,PERSONAL FIRST AID KIT, FLASHLIGHT, POCKET KNIFE, MATCHES,MESS KIT, SLEEPING BAG & MAT, TOOTHBRUSH/PASTE, TRAIL FOOD, SCOUT BOOK, FIRE STARTERS. MOST IMPORTANT, THE PROPER CHANGE OF CLOTHES FOR THAT TIME OF YEAR (ie winter- layers, gloves, hat, etc Summer - shorts, swim trunks, etc) Please note this is not a complete list and is only a reminder. The compete list is available from your Senior Patrol Leader.

What gear do I need for summer camp? Do we sleep in tents? Do we need our backpacks?

Summer Camp has different requirements than our usual camping trips. We sleep in Tents that are on wooden platforms or in lean-tos, depending  on what you are assigned. We also sleep on cots. It is recomended you use a large plastic (foot locker) tub to store your gear. A day pack is needed for the items you need throughout the day.  We hold several meeting to discuss the specific equipment needed. Please check the calendar and news page for meeting dates.

Why are there only a few articles linked to news paper stories of Troop 137 when there have been more?

We search for and accept links emailed to us, only a few newspapers allow direct links to there stories. Others papers only provide searchable articles, for a fee, that cannot be linked.

It says “No Pop Ups” on the top right, sometimes I get Pop Ups, Why?

Pop Ups are not generated on our site, we provide links to external site that may have Pop Ups. We have no control over external links. If Pop Ups on linked sites become excessive, we can remove the Link. Just email us the page and link name
